Educational Programs for Our Youth

The museum provides free, docent-led “Discovery” tours of its exhibitions to students (Kindergarten – 12th grade; public and private) and other youth groups on a year-round basis. These tours bring history to life by exposing students to original photographs, artifacts and documents that make young citizens aware of the city ‘s rich and diverse multicultural past. For several years the SMHSM sponsored an essay and art poster contest for local schools with U.S. savings bonds as prizes. The museum constantly provides historical information for classroom studies of Santa Monica history. High school students have participated in the museum’s preservation projects.
