The Miramar was a three story Victorian house with 17 bedrooms, a huge living room, dining room, kitchen, smoking room and library. It also had a smaller dining room for the servants and children who ate earlier than the rest of the family. A great aunt ran the house with the aid of five or six servants, a gardener and liveryman. Three cows were kept in a corral providing milk daily for the family. Chickens supplied fresh eggs. Pigs and horses were also kept on the property. The youngsters enjoyed tennis, basketball and croquet in the facilities on the Miramar grounds. The grounds also had a Moreton Bay fig tree which still stands where the Fairmont Miramar Hotel is today on Wilshire Boulevard and Ocean Avenue. The Jones family sold their Miramar in 1912.
