The Santa Monica History Museum is excited to announce the next installment of our free Discover the History lecture series on Wednesday, March 9th<\/sup>, 2016 at 6:00pm at the Santa Monica History Museum at 1350 7th<\/sup> Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401. This lecture will be a commemoration of Women\u2019s History Month. We are excited to have Santa Monica Chief of Police Jacqueline A. Seabrooks as our special guest speaker. Chief Seabrooks will discuss her journey to becoming the first African American, female Chief of Police for the City of Santa Monica.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In fact, Chief Seabrooks was the first woman to be promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant, Police Lieutenant, and Police Captain within the Santa Monica Police Department. She was also the first African American, female Chief of Police for the City of Inglewood and indeed the first African American, female municipal police chief in the history of the State of California. She has more than three decades of progressively responsible municipal policing experience including service with the California State Police Division, the Inglewood Police Department, and the Santa Monica Police Department.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Chief Seabrooks holds a Bachelor\u2019s and Master\u2019s degree in Public Policy and Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and California State University, Long Beach respectively. She is a graduate of the FBI\u2019s National Academy, the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, Police Executive Research Forum\u2019s Senior Management Institute for Police, and the Harvard Kennedy School\u2019s Senior Executives in State and Local Government. She has been Chief of Police for the Santa Monica Police Department since May 2012.<\/p>\n

This lecture is offered free to the public, but seating is limited and RSVPs are encouraged. Doors will open at 5:00pm and seating will be honored in order of RSVP. Refreshments will be served.<\/p>\n
