Ron & Ann Funk

Dean and Ann Funk
Santa Monica’s history has long been of interest to Ron and Ann Funk.  Ann served as Historical Activities Chairperson for Santa Monica’s Centennial Celebration in 1975 when the Santa Monica Historical Society (former name) was organized with her as its founding chair person. Over the years, she was actively involved in many community organizations. In 1956, Ron began working at the Evening Outlook, Santa Monica’s first newspaper, and became editor/managing editor in 1970. During his tenure, he oversaw the publication in 1975 of a Special Centennial Edition celebrating Santa Monica’s 100th birthday. In 1980 he retired and the couple moved to northern Nevada. Ann and Ron have strongly supported the creation of the Santa Monica History Museum. They are sponsoring the museum’s Outlook Newspaper “In the Headlines” interactive exhibit, which allows a visitor’s photograph to be superimposed on a reproduction of a front page of the past.
