Discover the History: The Cheetah Club The next Discover the History lecture in our 2017 series will be Tuesday, August 15th at 6:30pm Our lecture will focus on the history of the lesser known Cheetah Club. Transformed from the Aragon Ballroom in 1967, the Cheetah Club hosted some of the most iconic acts in Rock’n Roll history. Girl Scout Birthday
Girl Scouts 105th Birthday Celebration! You’re invited to join us to celebrate the 105th birthday of the Girl Scouts of the USA! On Saturday, March 11th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM the Santa Monica History Museum will offer half-price admission in honor of this special day. Cupcakes and lemonade will be available while supplies last. At 11:00 AM we will have a sparkling-cider toast and sing happy birthday to the Girl Scouts. Chinese New Year
This Hands on History workshop will explore the history of the Chinese American community in Santa Monica and Southern California, including the celebration of Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year, or the lunar New Year, begins on January 28, 2017. 2017 will be a year of the rooster.
The Tongva
When Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portola set up a camp for his party to rest near modern-day Santa Monica in 1769, this area was populated by the Tongva Gabrielino Native Americans. During this Hands on History workshop participants will learn more about the original inhabitants of this area and what their daily life was like.

The Santa Monica History Museum is excited to announce the next lecture in its free Discover the History lecture series will be Wednesday, November 9th, 2016 at 7:00pm at the Santa Monica History Museum at 1350 7th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401. This lecture will focus on the history of the Old Soldiers’ Home – now known as the Veterans Affairs West Los Angeles Medical Center.
