On Thursday, January 10th at 6:30 PM, join us for a very special panel discussion as we explore Santa Monica Aviation. The panel of experts will speak for 1 hour on the topic and, afterwards, will engage in a 30 minute Q&A with the audience. 

Panel Speakers:

  • Randy Bresnik – Fixed-wing and rotary-wing pilot, US Army 1st Air Cav, Vietnam Vet (2 tours), 1st Battlefield commission of the Vietnam War, retired Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Chief Pilot.
  • Kim Furst – Award winning Director/Producer/Editor of films including “Flying the Feathered Edge” featuring Harrison Ford & Bob Hoover. The film was the recipient of the Combs/Gates Award for the National Aviation Hall of Fame. Kim was also Editor of aviation documentary film “One Six Right”.

This discussion is free of charge, and includes free access to our galleries.

Seating is limited and on a first arrival basis.  This event will be held at the Santa Monica History Museum, 1350 7th St, Santa Monica CA, 90401.  The museum can be reached by following routes to the Main Library.  The Main Library is served by Big Blue Bus routes 1, 7, R7, R10 and 18. Ride your bike? Bicycle parking racks are available at the library. The Santa Monica History Museum is wheelchair accessible.

Now Open! New Exhibit on the Tongva People

Our newest exhibit, People of the Earth: Life and Culture of the Tongva, will open on February 9th.

The exhibit will explore the history and cultural influence of the Tongva people, the original residents of the Santa Monica Bay area, who have lived in the area for 7,000 years. The exhibit will display artifacts from everyday life ranging from musical instruments to fishing nets woven from milkweed fiber.

Topics will include community and social structure, use of plants, building methods, and profiles of significant figures. The exhibit will also cover the presence of indigenous people today, and ongoing efforts to bring awareness to the local native population.

Join us this February in welcoming the first new exhibit of 2018!
