The trio collaborated on, Santa Monica Pleasure Pier: A Look Back to 1917 From Today, the award-winning book that inspired the Museum’s exhibition of the same name. Learn how they transformed Charles Looff’s original photographs, plans, and drawings into a visual exploration of the Santa Monica Pier as it appeared in 1917 and today.

Immediately following the lecture, enjoy a special closing reception as we bid farewell to the popular exhibition, Santa Monica Pleasure Pier: A Look Back to 1917 From Today.

Michael Murphy

Author:
Michael Murphy is a former agency creative gone independent design professional. Last year he and his photographic partner Jens Lucking created a book and exhibition about Santa Monica in 1902. He is currently focusing his efforts launching LookBackArt.com.

Stephen Anaya

Collector:
Steven Raul Anaya is a native Angelino, a long time Ocean Park resident, and an avid collector of Santa Monica visual history. “I am proud to share this unique 1917 prospectus of the Pier, and help create this historical art book and exhibition.

Jens Lucking

Photographer:
Jens Lucking turned his passion into his profession in 1992, winning a string of awards since. Most recently, Jens was awarded at the International Photography Awards at Carnegie Hall in NYC for his latest project with Michael Murphy, Santa Monica Pleasure Pier – A Look Back to 1917 from Today.
