HANDS ON HISTORY
Basket Weaving Workshop
DATE: Saturday October 17, 2026
TIME: 1pm – 3pm
Carolyne Edwards of the Quinn Research Center leads a basket-making activity and explains the Indigenous traditions of the historic craft. Best for ages 8 and up.
Pine Needle Baskets made of raffia and pine needles. A tradition with its roots in Indigenous culture further developed when African weaving traditions arrived in America during slavery and local North American materials were used (like pine needles). The art form dispersed nationally during the Great Migration.
