Children (5 – 11 years) and their parents are invited to this free workshop occurring on select Saturdays from 11 AM to Noon throughout the year. Each session includes a brief, age-appropriate history lesson in the galleries followed by a craft or activity.
Our Discover the History event is a FREE monthly gathering to discuss a topic related to our current exhibition. All are welcome and reservations are recommended. Seats fill up quickly.
Our historical collections are comprised of over one million items, including the personal historical collection of Senator John P. Jones, co-founder of Santa Monica, and the archives of the Santa Monica Outlook Newspaper (1875-1998) and so much more.
Consisting today of over 600,000 prints, negatives, glass-plate negatives and slides, our collections is one of the the most comprehensive collection documenting Santa Monica’s history, most of the images in the collection are unique, rare, and not available anywhere else.
Along with a rotating exhibition, we have six permanent exhibition rooms full of historical photographs and objects of Santa Monica's history. Some rooms include interactive features. One such feature, Then & Now, has a version here online.
