Land Grants and Spanish Settlement

hoh-save-the-date-10-15

9/17/16

The Santa Monica History Museum is excited to invite children and their families to our FREE Hands on History workshop on Saturday, September 17th from 11am to 12pm at the Santa Monica History Museum at 1350 7th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401. The theme of this workshop will be the rancho system in Southern California.

The Spanish and, later, Mexican governments encouraged the settlement of California through a land grant system. Land grant titles were government-issued, permanent, unencumbered property ownership rights to land called ranchos. Rancho boundaries became the basis for California’s land survey system, and their names often survive on modern maps and land titles.

RSVP is requested, registration is available at the door. Every workshop is offered free of charge.
