Warriors of Flames:
125 years of fighting fires in Santa Monica
2014
June 28 – September 27
On March 22, 1889, Santa Monica citizens gathered at Town Hall to adopt the Constitution of the newly formed Santa Monica Hose and Ladder Company. In the years since, the methods and resources of the fire department has experienced many changes, often on the cutting edge of fire service. On this anniversary of the founding the Santa Monica Fire Department, the Santa Monica History Museum will honor their dutiful and oftentimes dangerous service to the community.
This exhibit explores how the Santa Monica Fire Department evolved from a small town bucket brigade into one of the premiere, most progressive city fire department in the United States. Supported by over 50 historical photographs and artifacts, visitors are transported through the ages of firefighting.
